Hurricane Katrina Update
September 5, 2005
The Louisiana Disaster Relief Call Response Center is working well. Hundreds of emails and calls are pouring in daily and are being handled by LBC staff and volunteers. Any questions concerning what you or your church can do are being handled by the Call Response Center. Please call 877-487-4658 with any needs you have or services you want to provide.
Louisiana has 15 LBC Disaster Relief kitchen sites operating in the state. Thousands are being fed every day from 15 kitchen sites we have in the state. Total numbers were not available at the time of this release, but it is known that the Rolling Hills unit alone cooked a record 25,700 meals yesterday, Sept. 4. See the list of sites.
MUD-OUT TRAINING! Mud-Out teams are needed immediately! You can attend training for mud-out teams at one of the following sites:
Tuesday, September 6, 2005 at 7 pm at the Louisiana Baptist Building in the Memorial Room.
Thursday, September 8, 2005 at 7 pm at the Florida Blvd. Baptist Church in Baton Rouge
Tuesday, September 13, 2005 at 7 pm at the Temple Baptist in Ruston
Email katrinaresponse@lbc.org to register. Please tell us the site and how many are coming. Hurry, space is limited!
Chain Saw Crews. Anyone interested in starting a chain-saw crew needs to contact us. 877-487-4658. We can train and certify you in a few hours, but you must be certified to work as an LBC Disaster Relief Chain-Saw unit. Insurance is not provided for anyone who is not officially certified.
BE ENCOURAGED!
We are getting reports that God is working in the lives of evacuees across our state. People are responding to the call of God and are being saved.
ATTENTION PASTORS AND STAFF!
We want to hear from our LBC pastors and staff. Please email, katrinaresponse@lbc.org or call 1-877-487-4658 to give us information about you and your family and the condition of your church facility.
Pray for everyone affected by Katrina. Pray for relief workers. Pray for our fellow churches.
There are 357 churches and 108 missions in the disaster area making up a 73,529 resident membership and 105,999 total membership.
