ABOUT US
We Believe We Can Do More For The Kingdom Together, Than Separately
Ecclesiates 4:9-12 Northwest Louisiana Baptist Association was formed in October 1969 to serve the Southern Baptist Churches of Caddo and Bossier Parishes in Louisiana. In 1969, three existing Associations merged. The Caddo Baptist Association that formed in 1892, the North Caddo Association that formed in 1948 and the Bossier Parish Association that formed 1922, all came together under one banner.
Since the 1960's the Association office had been located in Shreveport, Louisiana on Woodlawn Avenue, across the street from Centenary College. In 2004 the Association office relocated to west Shreveport on land donated from the Emmanuel Baptist Church. Since 1969, Northwest Association has had six Directors.
The oldest Baptist church in northwest Louisiana is Salem Baptist which dates back to 1844 in north Bossier parish. The following year in Augusta, Georgia the Southern Baptist Convention formally began. The context may change. Our strategy may change, but the mission of the Association will remain the same - to support the work of the churches of NLBA as they fulfill their Great Commission responsibilities. |
“The Association is the organized expression of the spiritual relation of kindred “The Association provides the way by which churches can edify one another unto good works. Perhaps in that sense the Association does exist to serve the churches. If God is love, then the Association is to be the loving fellowship of congregations bound together by the redeeming grace of God in Jesus Christ. That fellowship is to so overflow with the love in its conduct that the world will recognize the inbreak of the kingdom of God.” F. HOW WE ACCOMPLISH THIS
1. BY STRENGTHENING OUR CHURCHES:
We promote outreach and church growth. We provide the needed helps and resources to equip church leaders through conferences and training so that they can be more effective in ministry. We also strengthen our churches by partnering with them to provide godly pastoral leadership as they seek a new pastor or support staff position.
2. BY PROMOTING MISSION OPPORTUNITIES:
We encourage cooperating churches to partner with sister Northwest churches in local mission ventures. We also bring awareness of church planting needs across our country through the North American Mission Board. We strongly encourage our churches to partner with the International Mission Board to assist them with the gospel to an unreached or unengaged people group.
3. BY DEVELOPING LEADERSHIP:
At regular times throughout the year we provide training events for pastors and staff to enhance their leadership in administration, pastoral ministry, education, crisis ministry, conflict resolution, personal relations and leadership development.
4. BY NURTURING FELLOWSHIP:
Throughout the year, we cultivate cooperation and harmony among our churches by providing venues for pastors and church leaders to develop personal relationships. Through Association-wide events we provide opportunities for members of cooperating churches to fellowship with one another.
